MEET KEVIN D. THOMPSON

With more than 34 years of legal experience, Kevin D. Thompson has built a career representing individuals and families across a wide range of matters, including personal injury, criminal, and family law. His decades of practice have given him a well-rounded and practical understanding of Louisiana’s justice system and the realities people face when they enter a courtroom. Much of his career has been spent serving the people of Terrebonne Parish, allowing him to develop deep roots in the community and a firsthand understanding of the courts and the people they serve.

Kevin earned his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center and holds a Bachelor of Science from Southern University at New Orleans. He began his professional career with the Louisiana State Senate, where he developed valuable communication and negotiation skills while gaining an early appreciation for fairness and due process. He later entered private practice and became a partner in the law firm of Thompson & Thompson, where he practices alongside his son, Ivan J. Thompson. Through years of courtroom work, Kevin has developed a reputation for professionalism, ethical representation, preparation, and a strong command of the law.

Kevin believes the justice system must work fairly for everyone involved in the process—including victims, defendants, jurors, law enforcement, attorneys, and their families. His approach is grounded in firmness, fairness, patience, and sound temperament. He understands that many people enter the courtroom during extremely stressful moments in their lives, and he believes they should be treated with dignity, understand what is taking place, and know what to expect from the judicial process.

Beyond his legal career, Kevin is a devoted father and an active member of his church and community. He has serves in leadership roles within his church, including service in Sunday School and as a deacon. His faith and personal principles have reinforced a lifelong commitment to integrity, responsibility, service, and respect for others—values that have guided both his personal life and more than three decades in the legal profession.
